Behind the Hump
An independent studio in Larissa, Greece. About 40 people make Forgotten Eras, almost all of them working remotely.
Where it all began
When I was a child, I sat by my parents and my grandmother and listened to the old stories. They were about princes who doubted themselves, wolves who spoke with wisdom, witches who tested your heart, and a hut that turned to face you if you knew what to say to it.
Stories like these were told across every Slavic land. The names changed from village to village, and the soul of the tale stayed the same.
That memory stayed with me. With today's tools in our hands, I want to bring those stories back as something you can step into and carry with you.
Made by people
How Forgotten Eras is made
Characters animated by hand, key by key. Environments painted by hand, concept through to final. Music recorded by a live orchestra in a room rather than assembled from a library. No generative AI in the art, the animation, the writing or the sound.

Character sheets, drawn by hand
Every character is drawn on paper before anything is modelled.

Recording a character's voice
A microphone, a script and one voice at a time.

Even the logo was drawn by hand. The videos load from YouTube only when you press play.
Games, trailers and a podcast
Behind the Hump makes Forgotten Eras and, alongside it, trailers, a podcast and promotional films for other independent games. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and is in development now: everything shown on this site comes from work in progress builds, and visuals and mechanics are not final.
