Baba Yaga's hut goes on Kickstarter on 30 October, the same day as the boss fight demo.Kickstarter and new demo: 30 October

The game

A kingdom that is losing its own memory

Forgotten Eras is a hand-crafted Metroidvania grown out of Slavic and Balkan folklore, built in Unreal Engine 5: a painted 2.5D world that opens into 3D stages. Ivan wakes with no memory in a kingdom that is losing its own, and the Grey Wolf is bound to him by a pact older than the ruins he walks through.

Ivan

Ivan, the game's 3D model, thrusting the sword Kladenets

Wake with no memory. The kingdom has none either.

A shaman's ritual pulled the runic magic out of the world and took the kingdom's memory with it. Ivan carries the sword Kladenets and the first rune he finds, and neither came with an explanation. What he puts back, and what he leaves buried, is what the ending is made of.

The Grey Wolf

The Grey Wolf, the game's 3D model, running

Two ways through the same forest.

Hold the rune of Veles and you are Ivan: sword, bow, rune magic. Let it go and you are the Grey Wolf: speed, scent tracking, a short teleport through what Ivan would have to climb. The switch is one button, and it is also the map. A wall is a wall for Ivan and a scent trail for the Wolf.

Avena

Avena the rusalka, the game's 3D model, casting on the bridge

Not everything in the water wants you drowned.

Avena is a rusalka, and she is standing on the bridge rather than waiting under it. The people and the spirits you meet are not quest markers. Morana's winter is coming for them too, and what you agree to at the bridge decides who is still there later.

Domovoy

Domovoy, the game's 3D model, charging with his shoulder

A guardian nobody thanked.

The household spirit keeps the hearth and leaves warmth behind the stove. Forget him and he turns, first to mischief, then to worse. He closes the demo. He reshapes the room around Ivan, wakes the household objects, shields himself with runic fire, and puts the lights out. Which phase he opens with depends on what you did before the door shut.

Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga, the game's 3D model, casting, her hut behind her

The source of evil.

The witch of the old tales, and the source of the evil in Forgotten Eras. She feeds on people's will, and her hut on hen's legs turns to face whoever comes too close. Ivan has to defeat her, the Domovoy and the other corrupted heroes of the old tales.

Trailers

From the demo build

Both videos load from YouTube only when you press play.

The world

Three regions from the new build

Captured in Unreal Engine 5 in October 2026, without the HUD. Work in progress: visuals and mechanics are not final.

The first region

The forest and the bridge

Where the game begins and Ivan learns to move. Avena waits on the bridge, and through the trees the hut on hen's legs is already watching.

The temple

Where the Grey Wolf is

Purple fog marks the curse. It is thickest at the bottom of the temple, and so is the Grey Wolf.

The cemetery

Where the demo ends

A moonlit cemetery, torches by the graves, and the household spirit nobody thanked, waiting for Ivan.

Made by people

100% hand-crafted

Characters animated by hand, key by key. Environments painted by hand, concept through to final. Music recorded by a live orchestra in a room rather than assembled from a library.

No generative AI in the art, the animation, the writing or the sound, and that is the reason the project exists in this shape.
